The star forward received the ball in his own half and then proceeded to beat every single Burnley defender that stood in front of him and slotted the ball into the net.
Needless to say, it was a fantastic piece of skill and just recently, Spurs’ official Twitter account reminded everyone that they shouldn’t forget about the man who served the assist to Son on a silver platter – Jan Vertonghen.
Upon seeing this, many of their fans absolutely loved it and were quick to shower the defender with praise.
Of course, this was all just banter and the fans were saying it jokingly, even drawing comparisons with Tom Carroll’s assist to Gareth Bale against West Ham back in the day, or Sergio Busquets’ assist to Lionel Messi’s solo goal against Real Madrid.
Both examples, of course, saw players credited for contributions that paled into insignificance in the context of the goals.
Still, it seems that as far as the fans are concerned, Spurs have a new playmaker and his name is Vertonghen.
