Plymouth manager Wayne Rooney has been charged by the Football Association (FA) for his red card late in their 2-1 win against Blackburn.

Rooney was shown a red card towards the end of the second half of the Championship match for his behaviour as he protested following Blackburn's equalising goal. The ex-Manchester United striker subsequently missed Morgan Whittaker stoppage-time winner for Plymouth.

Rooney said he celebrated wildly in the tunnel after the goal, revealing that he broke the club secretary's glasses amid the excitement. Three days after the incident, he has now been charged by the FA.
WHAT THE FA SAID
"Wayne Rooney has been charged following Plymouth Argyle’s match against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday, 5 October, in the EFL Championship," a statement read. "The manager's conduct around the 87th minute was allegedly improper and/or he used abusive and/or insulting words towards a match official, which led to his dismissal.
"It's further alleged that his conduct after being dismissed was improper and/or violent. It’s also alleged that by returning to the field of play after being dismissed his behaviour was improper. Wayne Rooney has until Tuesday, 15 October, to respond."

Rooney can appeal against the charges this week before his possible punishment is decided. The manager could be banned from the touchline when his team visit Cardiff, who are bottom of the Championship, on October 19.
