As reported by The Sun, Tottenham Hotspur are in negotiations with Sheffield United about signing 20-year-old forward David Brooks this summer.
What’s the story?
Spurs have had a strong British core to their squad in recent years and have brought through a number of homegrown gems that have either impacted on the first team massively, been sold for huge profit or even both.
The latest could be David Brooks, according to The Sun, who say that Spurs are hoping to land the forward for £10m and develop him into a long-term replacement for Harry Kane.
Despite being less than eager to sell, Sheffield United will not stand in the player’s way, according to the paper, with Spurs already in negotiations about a potential switch.
It’d be a tall order to replace Kane’s contribution of course, but can the youngster eventually make a first team impression?

Who is he?
With just over 30 senior appearances to his name, Brooks doesn’t have an extensive track record to his name and therefore it’s difficult to know whether he has what it takes to make it at Spurs.
So far this term he’s managed to score twice and assist three times in 19 Championship appearances, only five of which were starts.
Despite being just 20 years of age, he already has international caps with Wales, despite already appearing for the English U20s side.
There’s certainly potential there and given Mauricio Pochettino’s talent of turning rough diamonds into gems, it could be another shrewd bit of business, especially if he’s talented enough to end up at a Premier League rival.
