Newcastle United loanee Adam Armstrong is delighted with his form at Blackburn Rovers, and is focused on the challenges ahead.
Armstrong progressed through the youth ranks on Tyneside, but has been loaned out to Coventry, Barnsley, Bolton and now Blackburn after failing to break into the first team.
The 21 year-old striker, valued at £1.35million by Transfermarkt, picked up the League One player of the month award for February, after four goals and two assists helped guide his side to the top of the league.
He continued his fine form last weekend against fellow promotion chasers Wigan, scoring just six minutes into the match. Wigan fought back to draw 2-2, but the young striker is delighted with his and his side’s form.
“It’s brilliant. Personally, I think I’ve had a good month, but most importantly it’s about the team,” Armstrong said.
“I think the team’s done well, we’re putting performances on every week, we’re at the top of the table and we’re trying to stay there.
“I’d like to dedicate this award to the players around me, who are producing for me and helping me get those goals, and everyone who has helped me through this month.”
The 21-year-old is surely at the point in his Newcastle career where he must look to break into the first team next season, but insists he is just focused on the challenges to come with Blackburn for now.
“I’m a pretty level-headed guy, so I’m just getting on with the job that I’ve got in front of me and that’s giving my all for Blackburn Rovers and I think I’m doing that at the minute and it’s helping the team.”
Newcastle could do with some of Armstrong’s pace and clinical finishing, but it is yet to be seen whether Rafa Benitez considers him a long-term option.
