Time is running out on his loan deal, and there is no real indication of what the future holds for Colombian Radamel Falcao at Manchester United.
When Falcao joined the Red Devils the club were given the option to buy the player at the end of the loan deal for a price of around £43million.
He may not be living up to the high expectations, but it is important to remember Falcao was recovering from a serious knee injury, an injury that unfortunately saw him miss the World Cup in Brazil last summer.
Considering the long road to recovery Falcao faced with an injury of that calibre, you cannot expect too much from him so soon, especially in the early half of the season. As he signed for United at the end of the transfer window, he missed pre-season, and was dropped into the team and expected to adjust instantly.
But that was September, and this is May. Falcao has had the time to get used to his new side – even if the formations have been played about with. He may not be a regular starter, but neither have plenty of high profile players, such as Angel di Maria. The only way you can push yourself into the starting XI is to put on the performance of your life when you are brought on to play.

Can we truly say Falcao has done this? When he was taken off against Sunderland at home, it was a bit too abrupt and somewhat unjustified. Falcao had won United a much needed a penalty – a turning point in the game, which they went on to win 2-0. But for the most part of the season, Falcao has played a bit part role.
Louis Van Gaal is wasting no time ahead of next season on strengthening his squad. He has already signed Memphis Depay, subject to a medical, for around£25million. The deal will go through when the window opens in June. It is clear that Louis Van Gaal wants to get his side put together as quickly as possible ahead of a busy pre-season tour in America. So if Falcao is going to stay at Manchester United, you would expect everything to be tied up in the next few weeks at least.
One piece of information that has been circulating in the last few days is that if David de Gea is to remain at Manchester United, Falcao must do the same. This is meant to have been put forward by the man who represents the two players; the infamous super-agent Jorge Mendes. Mendes is no fool, he knows how good de Gea has been and how desperate Manchester United are to keep him. But, can he really create this kind of deal?
If Manchester United are to keep Radamel Falcao, who has been hailed as one of the best forwards in the world before his injury, they need to extend his loan move. It is counterproductive to sign someone who would essentially be a squad player for £43m. But they may be in luck: due to Financial Fair Play, Monaco will have to sell Falcao for a cut price. How much that discount will be remains to be seen – but this would be a more appealing aspect.
If he keeps fit, we could see a very different Tigre next season.
